6 million jews died from horrific murders in the holocaust. Most jews were captured and placed in concentration camps were they were either starved, gased or burned. The Grermen army took over Austria,poland and Checkleslavokia. If jews were caught they faced concentration camps, imprisionment and/or immediate execution. people who tried to help the jews ecsape were known as the resistance.

maria is traveling to her aunt hellas house. as soon as she got there there was a hail of gun fire and bombs exploding everywhere. maria is sent to her aunts barn to stay in a cellar where she will be safe. she is startled when she finds out there are at least 20 other people in her aunts cellar. maria is awakened by a russian soldier pounding on the cellar. they opened the cellar door. the russian soldier told all of the people to rush across the river where they will b safe. maria finds out that her father has been shot by there neighbor trying to help the two jewish men to safety. a few years later one of the jewish men sends for maria and her family to join the man at his house.

Henry is taking his little brothers to school one day and at the entrance is a boy wearing a Nazi uniform. he tells Henry and his brothers that he is not allowed to go to school here anymore.so henry and his brothers return home and tell his mother,in return tells their father. Henry and his brothers are now home schooled.

henry and his brother are being sent to a catholic family, but there is no more room for their parents. henry and his brother jack are fending for themselves. they formed a group tp try and help others survive without getting caught. every day they learn of more of their friends getting taken away by nazis.

henri was rounded up by a nazi in a street raid they looked at his fake papers the said he made fircoats for the German army.henri was scared so he jumped out of a two story window and limped al the way home. henri and jack recieved a letter stating that their friend mirjam and his childeren tryed to make it across the swiss boarder they made it but were soon caught by german police. the next day henri and jack were awakened bby a roaring sound they rushed down stairs and were united by their family their town was free from nazi rein.
